In August, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent a letter to Rep. Jim Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee, admitting that the Biden administration pressured Facebook and Instagram to censor COVID-19 content — including humor and satire.
Zuckerberg also revealed that his company suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story, which “51 former intelligence officials” falsely claimed was Russian disinformation — a lie gleefully amplified by mainstream outlets during the 2020 election.
In other words, Big Tech knew. The press knew. And they all cooperated to bury truth and protect their political allies.
The Global Push to Silence Free Speech
Now, two years later, world leaders and leftist ideologues are openly calling for restrictions on speech.
Former Clinton cabinet member Robert Reich, writing in The Guardian, declared:
“Elon Musk is out of control. Here’s how to rein him in.”
The irony is breathtaking — using free speech to argue for the limitation of free speech.
In Europe, the EU has demanded “accountability” from Musk for allowing unapproved opinions to exist. In the U.K., citizens are being arrested for social-media posts and “hate speech,” including simply agreeing with someone else’s comment.
This is the end game for the Left: total narrative control.
The Left’s War on the First Amendment
You don’t need to dig far to see the pattern. The modern Left despises free speech precisely because it’s the one thing they can’t fully control.
They believe rights come from government, not before it.
But anyone honest enough to read the Constitution knows the truth: our rights restrain government — not the other way around.
By pressuring platforms like X, Democrats and global progressives are trying to turn the First Amendment into a permission slip, deciding which speech is “safe” enough to allow.
Why X Terrifies Them
Before the internet, legacy media controlled the message.
People trusted TV networks and major newspapers to tell the truth — but those days are long gone.
When independent media and platforms like X and Rumble gave citizens a voice, the Left lost its monopoly on information.
Now they’re desperate to shut that down.
Polling continues to show record-low trust in mainstream media. Yet instead of earning trust back, the Left is doubling down on censorship, narrative policing, and digital punishment for dissenters.
The Pattern Is Clear
President Biden himself has called for “regulation” of social-media platforms to fight so-called misinformation — the same excuse used to silence conservatives, satirists, and investigative journalists.
As I’ve said on The Edge of Liberty, this isn’t about safety or truth. It’s about power.
Because when only one voice is allowed, elections become theater.
Joseph Goebbels would be proud of how far the Left has taken his philosophy of “control the message, control the people.”
Final Thoughts
Free speech isn’t negotiable. It’s not partisan. It’s not something granted by politicians or revoked by bureaucrats.
Platforms like X represent what the Founders envisioned — a public square where citizens speak freely without fear of arrest or erasure. That’s why the Left fears it so much.
Because when truth is unshackled, power starts to tremble.
