Political discourse in America has split into a two tiered system. On one side every dehumanizing political label imaginable is considered acceptable. These terms are blasted across cable news, political speeches, social media feeds, activist networks, and editorial pages without a moment of hesitation.

Here is the list everyone knows

Nazis
White supremacists
Fascists
Extremists
Domestic terrorists
Threats to democracy
Authoritarians
Insurrectionists
Racists
Bigots
Cult members
Election deniers
MAGA terrorists
Christian nationalists used as a slur
Ultra MAGA extremists
The greatest threat to the homeland
Anti American
Red hat radicals
Gun nuts
Deplorables
Irredeemables

These labels are treated as normal free speech. They are used to smear millions of Americans who did nothing other than vote differently or disagree with the approved narrative. The public and the media shrug at these terms. They are protected. They are embraced. They are encouraged.

Yet the moment someone uses one word that hurts the feelings of the people who spend every day hurling political insults a moral panic erupts. Their smears are allowed. Their insults are permitted. Their dehumanizing rhetoric is given a stamp of approval.

But say the word they have decided is unacceptable and suddenly you have crossed a red line.

That is the double standard.
That is the hypocrisy.
And the word they are upset about is retard while all of the labels above are treated as acceptable.

This is not about kindness.
It is not about protecting anyone.
It is about who is allowed to speak freely and who is not.
It is about power.

You can be called every vicious political insult imaginable. You can be compared to the worst monsters in history. You can be labeled the enemy of your own country.

But say one word they do not approve of and the same people who spent years calling you Nazis and extremists suddenly demand silence.

Everyone sees the game. Everyone sees the double standard. And people are tired of it.
