There have been reports of shots fired involving Chicago Border Patrol, raising concerns in the community.
Recently, an incident involving shots fired near the Chicago Border Patrol has sparked widespread attention.
Gunfire broke out in broad daylight Friday as a black Jeep driver opened fire on Border Patrol agents near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue in Chicago. The assailant fled the scene as agitators hurled bricks and paint cans at federal vehicles to prevent pursuit. No agents were reported injured.
The attack occurred just days after Chicago and Illinois officials falsely claimed Border Patrol agents had “stormed” a daycare center an accusation debunked by surveillance footage and a DHS fact check.
DHS Confirms Attack During Operation Midway Blitz
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the shooting occurred while agents were conducting a targeted enforcement operation.
Officials said multiple individuals interfered with agents, throwing objects and blocking vehicles as the shooter escaped. The suspect remains at large.

Commander Gregory K. Bovino, overseeing Operation Midway Blitz, reported that agents were attacked for hours as they carried out enforcement duties.

The Origin of the False “Daycare Raid” Story
The violence followed a misinformation campaign by Illinois politicians who accused agents of “storming” a daycare while arresting a Colombian national. DHS later released a detailed fact check clarifying that the suspect fled into the daycare, endangering children by her own actions.
According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, ICE officers initiated a traffic stop targeting Diana Patricia Santillana Galeano, an illegal alien from Colombia. The driver refused to stop, and both occupants fled into a shopping plaza before attempting to barricade themselves in the daycare. Galeano was arrested in a vestibule outside the classrooms, not in front of children.
Officials said Galeano’s temporary work authorization granted under the Biden administration did not provide legal immigration status and prohibited criminal conduct such as human smuggling. DHS reports she paid cartel-linked smugglers to bring her two teenage children across the border in October.
