ABC News acknowledges that Obamacare will not remain affordable once federal tax credits expire.
ABC News finally said the quiet part out loud. Their headline spells it out with brutal honesty:
“With the tax credits set to expire at the end of this year, many policyholders are learning the ACA, commonly referred to as Obamacare, will no longer be affordable unless Congress intervenes.”
Bingo! Congress does need to make a change, just like I pointed out in my original article. But let us go a step further. Why is the mainstream media only now admitting that the Affordable Care Act was never going to be affordable without massive and endless subsidies. Fifteen years later we are still pretending this thing works on its own.
Obamacare has always been a house of cards up with taxpayer cash. The only way this program survives is if Washington keeps dumping mountains of money into it, ironically it is on life support. The name may say affordable but the reality is simple.
“If something needs to be subsidized year after year, it was never affordable, plain and simple.”
The numbers do not lie.
Obamacare’s marketplace system has required an estimated total of 727.1 billion dollars in federal subsidies since 2014 just to keep the program alive. That total includes Premium Tax Credits, the early Cost Sharing Reduction reimbursements, the subsidy expansions created under ARPA and IRA, and the court ordered risk corridor judgment payments the government was required to make after insurers took losses. Fourteen years in, the ACA still cannot stand on its own without massive injections of taxpayer cash.
Medical Cash for Clunkers
Think of it this way. If you had a car that you needed to get to work, but that car cost more to repair and maintain every year than the price of replacing it, how long would you keep lighting money your money on fire by sinking it into that car? Sooner or later any rational person would say: “screw it, I need a new car”.
Obamacare is that clunker, and it is requiring WAY too much cash. We do not need to keep pouring taxpayer money into a broken system. We need a real (actually effective) cash for clunkers program that applies to healthcare, one that stands on its own and actually reduces costs for taxpayers and employers who provide insurance. (*note – I am aware that Cash for Clunkers was a way to bail out the US Auto Industry and it put many Americans in debt that wasn’t needed, that was more of a sarcastic statement, before you all come at me)
The Treament Plan?
Stop wasting taxpayer dollars.
Stop pretending this program works.
Repeal Obamacare. Start fresh.
President Obama’s legacy should not be the reason Americans keep footing the bill for a policy that only survives with endless government cash. His library already costs a fortune and looks like a post nuclear building scapped together, but that is another article for another day.
