A South Carolina pediatrician running for office decided to weaponize sick children to score political points against Senator Lindsey Graham… and she did it in public, for the world to see.
Dr. Annie Andrews jumped onto X to fire off a self-congratulatory dig, writing: “Damn. So sorry to have missed this. I was busy taking care of sick kids in the hospital.”
This wasn’t a medical update. It wasn’t a call for resources. It wasn’t even a health-care discussion.
It was a campaign attack aimed at Graham because he posted about golfing with President Trump at the Trump-Graham Golf Classic.
Andrews framed her jab like she was forced to heroically tend to suffering children while Graham was on a golf course. The problem is obvious. Kids in the hospital deserve privacy, care and focus, not to be dragged into a political pissing match so a candidate can look righteous on social media.
This wasn’t moral high ground. It was political exploitation dressed up as compassion. A cheap shot disguised as virtue.
If Andrews wants to criticize Graham’s politics, go ahead. But dragging “sick kids in the hospital” into your attack is something else entirely. That crosses a line most professionals wouldn’t touch. It signals exactly what voters can expect: a politician willing to use the vulnerable as props when it benefits her.
Graham posted about a charity golf event with President Trump that raises money for Republican causes. Andrews responded by using hospitalized children as a campaign cudgel. One looks like routine political messaging. The other looks like desperation.
If this is her opening pitch to voters, South Carolina has a bigger problem than a golf outing.

Every election cycle exposes the difference between genuine leadership and emotional manipulation. What we saw here wasn’t compassion, and it wasn’t advocacy. It was opportunism. If politicians want to argue policy, debate Graham, challenge Trump, or make their case on the issues, fine — but exploiting sick children as a rhetorical weapon isn’t moral courage. It’s political theater at its worst. Voters deserve better than staged outrage and sanctimonious one-liners crafted for social media applause. Accountability demands we call it out plainly.
