The campaign trail can be a fun, strange, and amazing place, without a doubt. With that being said, those campaigning for the highest office in the land should be aware of their words. That brings me to Governor Tim Walz, campaigning for VP, and his speech he gave today.
Governor Walz now has a reputation for being flamboyant, over the top, and sometimes displaying confusing body language. I refer to him as a Richard Simmons, minus the exercise and charisma. He has received just as much criticism for his body language as he has for his policies as Governor of Minnesota and as a VP Candidate. There is no doubt that Tim Walz can come off as “weird”. Remember when they tried that angle?
So, lets discuss this little gem that we see here posted to X from The Blaze:
Well, I have to say I agree with Tim on this one. We cannot handle another four years of the Biden/Harris ideas and policies, as they are the ones in office right now. I think the pressure of the national campaign is wearing on Tim. The other night, he also released his video about “fixing” and “Manuals”.
There are a few things to criticize about the production of this campaign ad. Firstly, the folksy approach, portraying Walz as an “everyday man” (despite having traveled to China more than most Chinese nationals). The ad depicts him as just an average Joe who enjoys wearing military ball caps and working on his old International Scout. It honestly reminded me of Gil Fulbright.
Walz began by discussing how the cruise control was broken and he was going to fix it. Then, for no apparent reason, Walz decided to demonstrate how to unscrew a wingnut and talk about the air filter. This was an odd choice of prop, as he went on to explain how if someone maintains the air filter, it will remain clean. It’s amusing because when I saw pictures of the Minneapolis area post-riot, that air filter was filthy. I also looked at the border, and the air filter there was terribly soiled. Neither he nor Harris do their maintenance very well.
Next, Walz brought up having a “Manual” and how the International Harvester Company (which produced the vehicle he was working on) provided one for him to use for maintenance. He emphasized that the manual wouldn’t have been produced if it wasn’t intended to be used for maintenance. Walz then shifted gears to talk about Project 2025 and tried to tie it to Trump/Vance. Project 2025, developed by Trump/Vance, has been debunked numerous times by Trump and Vance themselves. It was actually developed by the Heritage Foundation, a fact even USA Today and Google acknowledge

I honestly don’t see how Walz connects to middle America, rust belt undecided voters. It feels stale and overly produced, lacking substance. However, this ad is targeted towards the small number of undecided voters, which is the focus of all current ads. As I’ve mentioned before, candidates are now solely focused on appealing to this small group that remains undecided. The majority of voters have already made up their minds for November, and I don’t believe this ad will sway any voters at all. But, at least he endorsed Trump.
