The Stargate franchise is officially launching its next chapter in the United Kingdom.

GateWorld reports that London will serve as the primary production hub for the upcoming live-action Stargate series, making it the fourth television installment in the long-running science-fiction franchise. Amazon MGM Studios announced the project in November, and the series will stream globally on Prime Video.

London Chosen as Production Headquarters

GateWorld confirms that London will house the main soundstages and production offices for the series. At the same time, the production will expand well beyond the UK. The team plans to film across multiple international locations while London anchors overall operations.

Martin Gero, creator and executive producer of the series, leads the project. Gero previously worked on Stargate Atlantis and Blindspot. The studio currently plans to begin production in fall 2026 and continues discussions around a possible September start date.

Earlier, Gero told fans that the first season would require roughly two years of production before release. That schedule includes several months of principal photography extending into 2027. After filming concludes, the series will enter post-production, visual effects, and localization to support a coordinated global release.

Writers’ Room Already Underway

Development has already advanced significantly. Stargate consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed that the writers’ room began work on January 12 in the Los Angeles area.

The writing team is actively breaking stories, developing character arcs, and assigning scripts as the season takes shape.

Why the UK Makes Sense

The greater London area offers clear advantages for a large-scale science-fiction production. Along with favorable tax incentives, Amazon MGM Studios controls major production facilities in the region. These facilities include Shepperton Studios and Bray Film Studios, which the studio acquired in 2024.

Both studios have supported numerous high-budget film and television projects. Their infrastructure enables the scope and scale required for a visually intensive series like Stargate.

Production Companies and Executive Team

The final title has not yet been announced. Safehouse Pictures will produce the series under executive producers Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell.

The production slate also includes Quinn’s House Productions, Electric Entertainment, Centropolis Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios.

Original Stargate creators Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich will receive executive producer credits. GateWorld reports that their exact level of involvement remains undisclosed.

Veteran Producer Joins the Team

Production Weekly has listed James W. Skotchdopole as part of the production team. Skotchdopole brings decades of experience, with credits that include Sleepless in Seattle, Crimson Tide, Django Unchained, and The Revenant. More recently, he worked on Prime Video series The Peripheral and Fallout. The studio has not yet announced his specific role on Stargate.

A Major Step Forward for the Franchise

With the writers’ room active, studio space secured, and a production window taking shape, Stargate’s return to live-action television has moved decisively from concept to execution. London’s role as the production base underscores Amazon MGM Studios’ commitment to building the series at blockbuster scale.

GateWorld reports that the franchise that began in 1994 now positions itself for a new global audience while continuing the creative lineage that established Stargate as a science-fiction staple for more than three decades.
