A glowing Stargate event horizon, representing the return of the iconic sci-fi franchise.

The announcement of a brand-new Stargate series last week sent shockwaves across the sci-fi community. After fourteen years without a single episode on the air, the iconic franchise returned to headlines with enormous fan excitement, speculation and questions. Now, longtime Stargate writer and producer Joseph Mallozzi has weighed in publicly on the news, responding to the flood of inquiries while making one thing clear: answers will come, but not yet.
Mallozzi posted his update on X, explaining the reaction has been “huge” and that fans brought everything from excitement to cautious optimism. The immediate questions rolled in:
Where will the series film?
Will familiar faces return?
Will unresolved storylines from Atlantis and Universe finally be addressed?
Does the Goa’uld hand device work for left-handed people?
Mallozzi responded with characteristic humor and honesty, saying he is “unable to address any of these questions” for a few important reasons.
Let the News Breathe
Mallozzi said the announcement is still fresh and should be appreciated before details begin spilling out. He compared it to savoring a rare wine, urging fans to “enjoy the fullness of the moment” before rushing into everything that comes next.
Information Will Come Gradually
According to Mallozzi, series creator Martin Gero wants fans to be informed over time, not overwhelmed all at once. With a long road between announcement and premiere, the plan is for updates to roll out consistently through development, filming and post-production. He emphasized that Gero does not intend to “make this announcement and then go dark for months.”
This Is Martin Gero’s Show
Mallozzi made it clear the new series is being led by Gero, who will be the one guiding official announcements and coordinating with Amazon and the media. Mallozzi will still provide his trademark behind-the-scenes glimpses when appropriate, from writers’ room moments to wardrobe mishaps and on-set chaos, but only when timing allows.
It’s Still Too Early for Spoilers
Production is in its earliest stages, and Mallozzi stressed that there is not yet much he can share without revealing story details. He assured fans that updates will accelerate as the project ramps up, promising one of the most well-informed fandoms in sci-fi history.
One Question Remains Unanswered
When it came to whether the Goa’uld hand device works for left-handed people, Mallozzi admitted he genuinely has no idea but assumes it probably does — leaving that mystery for fans to debate among themselves.
For now, the message is simple. The series is real, the excitement is justified and more information is coming. Mallozzi’s post confirms that the revival of Stargate is finally underway, but the team intends to reveal details the right way: carefully, patiently and with fans included every step of the process.
