Democrat Lawmaker Moves to Impeach RFK Jr., Claiming Abuse of Authority

A Democrat member of Congress has introduced articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., escalating an already-heated political fight over the Biden administration’s health policy direction and Kennedy’s controversial leadership at HHS.

According to reporting from Western Journal, Rep. Haley Stevens of Michigan filed the impeachment articles. She accused Kennedy of abusing the powers of his office, undermining public health institutions, and restricting access to vaccines. Additionally, she accused him of misleading Congress during confirmation proceedings.

Stevens argued that Kennedy’s conduct has harmed the public. She insisted that he violated his constitutional obligation to faithfully execute the laws of the United States. She further claimed that families are less safe due to what she describes as a dismantling of established medical and research frameworks.

Republicans immediately dismissed the filing as political theatrics. Even Democratic insiders reportedly view the move as unlikely to advance in a Republican-controlled House. Some are quietly suggesting that Stevens may be attempting to boost visibility ahead of her Senate bid.

RFK Jr. has long been a polarizing figure in public health debates. Critics accuse him of promoting dangerous skepticism toward vaccines. Meanwhile, supporters argue he has exposed long-overlooked failures inside federal health agencies. The impeachment filing intensifies a familiar battle line. Moreover, it raises new questions about internal fractures among Democrats over Kennedy’s role in the administration.

What happens next depends entirely on whether House leadership agrees to take up the resolution. This appears improbable based on the current makeup of Congress. Still, the filing signals a broader conflict. This involves trust in federal health institutions, the role of dissenting voices in public policy, and the political risks Democrats face. These risks increase when their own internal divisions become public.
