For years Americans have been told that more guns mean more violence. We have been lectured that the Second Amendment is the reason for every national tragedy. And we have been warned that mass shootings are exploding at unprecedented levels.

Here is what the data actually shows. This is the part the political class and their media allies will never put on a chyron.

Mass killings in America just hit their lowest point in nearly 20 years.
Not lower than last year.
Not lower than the pandemic spike.
Lower than anything seen since 2006.

The headlines reporting the drop were quiet. They appeared almost embarrassed. This is because they undermine the entire narrative that legal gun ownership is driving national bloodshed. The same period saw constitutional carry sweep across the country. During this time, millions of new firearms were purchased. Yet, there was a dramatic reduction in the very tragedy politicians claimed these laws would unleash.

But the story gets even more inconvenient.

When most people hear mass shooting, they imagine a random public attacker targeting innocent strangers. They picture the horrifying spree events that dominate national coverage. But using the definition the media relies on, four or more people shot, the reality is completely different.

Between 60 and 70 percent of what gets labeled as mass shootings are not public rampages at all. They are gang disputes, drug-trade violence, drive-by shootings, and criminal retaliation. These events are symptoms of failed cities, failed policies, and failed leadership, not law abiding gun owners.

Democrats claim that 47,000 Americans die each year from what they call gun violence. However, they never mention the part that changes the entire conversation. Fifty eight percent of those deaths are suicide. This represents a mental health crisis, not a criminal violence epidemic. Only about thirty eight percent are homicide. The remaining cases are accidents or unclassified. They use the biggest number for maximum fear but strip away context because the truth does not support their agenda. Most of what they call gun violence is not murder. It is not mass shootings or public attacks. It is certainly not caused by the legal gun owners they want to blame.

And where does the real violence concentrate
In the same cities that reliably top the nation in homicides every year.

New Orleans. Memphis. St. Louis. Baltimore. Washington DC. Jackson. Shreveport. Montgomery. Roanoke. Little Rock.

Different states, different regions, different demographics, but one thing they all share.

Democrat controlled city governments.
Not one major Republican run city appears on the list.

National leaders blame the gun lobby, constitutional carry, or rising extremism. They deliberately skip the part where their own political strongholds suffer the worst violence. The issues are not because of America’s firearms. They are due to decades of broken urban governance, collapsing policing, and refusal to confront criminal networks.

The country is not plagued by armed citizens. It suffers from failing cities. Failed Democrat policy results in hardened violent crimes not being charged or being downgraded. Additionally, low to no bail systems put offenders back on the street before the ink on the police report dries.

If mass killings are down, and most mass shootings are gang warfare, then our current debate is misguided. It is not the debate we should be having. The country is not experiencing a gun crisis, it is experiencing a governance crisis.

Until the political class is willing to admit that, expect the narrative to keep shifting. Expect blame to keep floating upward. And expect millions of responsible gun owners to keep taking heat for violence their elected leaders refuse to confront.

Because for some politicians, it has never been about the truth.
It has been about control.

And here is the final point that shatters the narrative completely. Estimates reveal that more than one hundred million Americans own firearms. There are well over four hundred million guns in private hands. If legal gun ownership created a national gun violence epidemic, the murder rate would be far higher. Mass killings would not be at 20 year lows. The overwhelming majority of lawful gun owners would not go their entire lives without ever committing a violent act. The sheer scale of peaceful gun ownership compared to the tiny fraction of firearms misused in crime proves one thing. The problem is not guns. The problem is the leaders who refuse to fix the cities under their control.
