A cinematic rendering of a Stargate preparing to activate for the newly announced Amazon series revival.

Yes, it is true. Fourteen years have passed since Stargate Universe aired its final episode, Gauntlet. Now, a brand new Stargate series has officially been greenlit by Amazon. This is not a reboot and not a rewrite of the past. It does not wipe away seventeen seasons or more than three hundred fifty hours of established canon. Instead, it is being pitched as a perfect starting point for new viewers. Meanwhile, it respects every chapter of the existing universe.
This direction is possible because the series is created by longtime Stargate veteran Martin Gero. He worked on SG One, Atlantis, and Universe. His writing credits include fan favorites like The Storm and The Eye. They also include Duet, First Strike, and Be All My Sins Remembered. Brad Wright, co-creator of the entire original franchise, has also joined the production.
Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the news in the X post you provided. Prime Video posted its own announcement. Mallozzi explained that Martin Gero reached out over a year ago. He offered him a chance to read the pilot script. While story details stay under wraps, he says the new series captures everything fans loved from the beginning. It includes heart, humor, mythology, exploration, adventure, memorable characters, and the tone of optimism that defined the franchise.
Even with a pilot and full series overview already written, there is a long road ahead. A writers’ room must be assembled. Episodes will be broken, scripts written, sets prepped, and production crews hired. Actors need to be cast and the new season fully produced. It will take time, but the creative team has promised ongoing updates throughout prep, production, and post. Fans should expect concept art, behind-the-scenes images, video updates, and more as the show begins to take shape.
After more than a decade of silence the gate is opening again.
Chevron seven is locked.
