Rep. Eric Swalwell announces his run for governor of California.

Rep. Eric Swalwell went onJimmy Kimmel Live and used late night television to launch his bid for governor of California. It was not a policy speech. It was performance politics dressed up as leadership. For a state drowning in homelessness, crime, and sky high costs, the choice of venue said everything.
Swalwell framed his run as a fight against former President Trump rather than a plan to fix California’s collapse. That is the problem. California families are fleeing because they cannot afford rent or groceries. Small businesses are crushed by regulation. Crime pushes people out of cities. Yet Swalwell used his opening pitch to talk about national politics. California deserves better than another politician who wants Sacramento to be a stepping stone for a Washington career.
He joins a crowded Democrat field that includes Katie Porter, Xavier Becerra, Tom Steyer, and Antonio Villaraigosa. Each one promises change. Each one helped build the system they now pretend to rescue. Swalwell insists he is the fighter California needs, but he has been in Congress for more than a decade with little to show Californians except viral clips and partisan theatrics.
Californians want lower costs, safer streets, reliable power, and government that works. They did not get that under Democrat rule and they will not get it from a candidate who thinks a late night comedy stage is a serious place to launch a statewide campaign. If this is Swalwell’s idea of leadership, the race is already off to a weak start.
Editorial Closure
California is at a breaking point. Voters deserve leaders who confront hard realities, not ones who hide behind television applause and partisan slogans. Truth still matters in this state and accountability matters even more. Candidates who continue to perform instead of govern should expect California voters to respond in kind.
