Satirical image of California Governor Gavin Newsom styled as “Gav Gav,” poking fun at his code-switching podcast appearance and his unofficial 2028 campaign rebrand.

Somewhere between his hair gel budget and a Napa Valley tasting flight, Gavin Newsom decided to “get real.” On the All The Smoke podcast — a show hosted by former NBA players, who I am not mocking — Gavin did what every politician with delusions of cool eventually does: he code-switched.
Suddenly, the California Governor who once scolded us about “equity” and “climate responsibility” became “Gavin from the block.” He was calling the hosts “bro,” reminiscing about white-bread sandwiches and macaroni and cheese, and trying very hard to convince America he’s just another regular guy who knows what it’s like to struggle.
Oh Gavin, bless your perfectly conditioned heart. I know you think white bread and mac and cheese are the culinary staples of the oppressed, but your affluent rich kid is showing. You forgot the ramen, the 99¢ tacos, and the nights when dinner was nothing at all. Your version of “the struggle” sounds more like summer camp with carbs.
Gavin, I have one thing to say to you:
As Kamala would say, Gavin, live in the context. You weren’t some kid clawing your way up from a rough neighborhood. You were born into California’s ruling aristocracy.
Your father, William Newsom, was a California appellate judge and personal advisor to the Getty family — yes, those Gettys, the oil billionaires. Your grandfather? Governor of California. Your high school? Larkspur — an enclave of wealth just north of San Francisco.
And your best friend growing up? Gordon Getty. You know — the billionaire you own PlumpJack Winery with. The one your family’s been intertwined with for decades. You didn’t “make it out.” You were chauffeured out.
But sure, tell us again about those white bread sandwiches. Tell us how it was “tough” growing up with a family that dined with Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer, and Nancy Pelosi. Tell us how you “connect” with the average American while sipping a $200 bottle of your own label Cabernet.
Let’s be honest — this wasn’t a podcast appearance. This was the soft launch of Gavin Newsom’s 2028 presidential campaign. The trial run of the “Relatable Gavin” rebrand. The billionaire’s son trying to cosplay as blue-collar before the primaries begin.
At this rate, I’m just shocked he didn’t show up in a backwards baseball cap and gold chain to really sell the “New Gav” look.

He can “bro” all he wants, but everyone knows the score:
The man who shut down small businesses while dining at The French Laundry is now pretending to be one of us.
Nice try, Governor. But “All the Smoke” can’t hide all the privilege.

Is this the “New Gavin” — or just the same slick salesman trying to rebrand before 2028?
