Jeremy B. Hales, an online content creator associated with the brand What The Hale$, has faced several legal disputes in recent years. He is linked with the brand What The Hale$. These cases range from defamation based actions he has initiated to procedural matters resolved in appellate courts.
Background
Hales operates multiple social media channels and online auction platforms through his business entity Elephant Shoe, LLC. His public persona revolves around online resale, storage unit auctions, and entertainment content. Because of this visibility, he has also become involved in conflicts with critics. He has clashed with rival online personalities too. Some of these conflicts have escalated into formal litigation.
Federal Defamation and Business Interference Lawsuit
In 2025 Hales filed a civil action in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida.
The complaint alleges that several individuals made false or harmful statements about him and his business operations. The filings include claims under the federal Lanham Act, which covers false statements in commercial contexts, as well as state level allegations such as interference with business relationships and deceptive trade practices.
The lawsuit asserts that these statements caused financial losses, reputational harm, and disruption to ongoing business partnerships. Defendants dispute these characterizations, and the case remains active.
Previous Appellate Court Matter
In a separate dispute, the Florida First District Court of Appeal granted Hales a writ of prohibition after he sought the disqualification of a trial level judge. The appellate court ruled that there was a legally sufficient basis for recusal, and the case was reassigned. This ruling focused solely on procedural fairness and did not address the underlying merits of the dispute between parties.
Public Reaction and Commentary
Hales’s lawsuits have drawn mixed responses.
Supporters argue that he is defending his livelihood against targeted misinformation. Critics claim his filings are excessive or retaliatory. These characterizations come from blogs, social media commentary, and independent observers and are not judicial findings.
At present there are no final judgments publicly available that confirm whether the allegations made in these suits are legally accurate.
Current Status
Most litigation involving Hales appears ongoing. Court records indicate active filings, amended complaints, and motions, but no completed verdicts on the central claims. As a result, public understanding of the disputes is shaped largely by the allegations presented rather than final legal conclusions.
