New York City police detectives have identified a possible suspect in the shooting of New York Jets player Kris Boyd. They are now attempting to question him, according to police sources speaking with ABC News. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Authorities are working to determine what led to the early-Sunday shooting outside a Midtown Manhattan nightclub.
Boyd, who was out with two Jets teammates and a friend at the upscale lounge Sei Less, reportedly became involved in a heated exchange with another group inside the venue. According to police sources, the argument began when the other group started “chirping” at them over their clothing.

When Boyd and his group attempted to leave, they encountered the same group outside. The heckling reportedly resumed, escalating into insults and questions about whether the players “think they’re better than us.” This created a tense confrontation but not an announced robbery attempt.
Detectives had been investigating whether the incident could have involved an attempted robbery of Boyd’s necklace. However, sources say no one at the scene mentioned a robbery during the altercation. Adding another bizarre twist, police recovered a $185,000 watch at the scene. It is a luxury item that, so far, no one has claimed.
The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday. According to law enforcement sources, Boyd said he had been at Sei Less with friends earlier that night. After the verbal confrontation spilled outside, a scuffle broke out. During that fight, Boyd was shot in the abdomen, with the bullet lodging in his lung.
He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition and underwent multiple medical procedures. By Wednesday, Boyd posted on social media that he had begun breathing on his own. He also shared a photo from his hospital bed.
Earlier in the week, NYPD released surveillance images of a male person of interest seen leaving the scene on foot. Detectives are now working to locate and question him as part of their ongoing investigation.
Editorial Closure
The shooting of Kris Boyd is another stark reminder of how quickly senseless violence can erupt. Even in the middle of a crowded commercial district surrounded by security, nightlife staff, and cameras. The circumstances are messy, the motives unclear, and the dropped six-figure watch only deepens the uncertainty. Yet one thing remains consistent: the public rarely gets the full story upfront. Investigations take time, evidence emerges slowly, and narratives can shift overnight.
As always, the pursuit of truth — not speculation — matters most. The facts will come out, and when they do, those responsible for this shooting should face full accountability. Until then, the focus stays on transparency, law enforcement accuracy, and the health and recovery of Kris Boyd.
