The Autopsy of a Media Giant

With the scandal at the BBC now fully autopsied for the world to see, you would think people would be calling for more accountability from an established media outfit. The BBC had been, for decades, a staple of information in the UK and beyond. Its episode of the program “Panorama” failed to notate that it edited and spliced President Trump’s January sixth speech to make it seem like he was calling for direct violent action against Congress on the day the election was to be certified.

The BBC apologized for the edit, but refused to compensate President Trump five billion dollars for the blatant editing that made him look bad. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told BBC Radio 4 that the editorial standard at the BBC was “in some cases not robust enough and in other cases not consistently applied.” As a result of the scandal, BBC News CEO Deborah Turness and the director general Tim Davie both resigned.

A Public Broadcaster With Mandatory Fees

The BBC is, for lack of a better analogy, what PBS tried to be in America. It is publicly funded by “license” fees paid by the UK public. If you do not pay your fee as a citizen, you can be criminally charged and fined. It is the same model as Obamacare if you think about it. You are forced to have something you might not want because the government says it is good for you to have, and if you do not comply, you are penalized. It is mandatory fun day. You will have fun, pay the fee, or you will suffer.

Now that you know the background on the incident and the organization, let us talk about the fallout.

Trump’s Threatened Lawsuit and What It Means

President Trump threatened to sue the BBC for five billion dollars for defamation. I will stipulate that I do not know if the lawsuit will be successful. Defamation laws are difficult in general, and the UK is no exception. But that does not really matter in the end. What matters is that President Trump has the right to try, and if this was you, would you not try. The only real recourse the public ever sees from these institutions is a few sacrificial lambs taking one for the team and an apology letter.

The media has been nothing but a praetorian guard for all things liberal and progressive for the last twenty years especially. The constant spinning and editing is always designed to protect the progressive cult worldwide, especially when it comes to Trump. From the very fine people hoax to the Steele dossier and beyond, it has been a nonstop series of lies and misrepresentations. Up until recently the playbook was simple. Say whoopsy, fire someone or make them resign, and move on so they can do it again.

The lawsuits are the only thing that cause punitive damage where it counts, the bank account. Something to make them think twice before intentionally misleading the public again.

News Is Dead, Activism Took Its Place

I have said before, the news as we knew it is dead. It is activists on news channels now, spreading lies under the label of news. Why do you think most twenty four seven news networks are mostly talk shows. Straight normal news does not buy the board of directors yachts and it does not push the narrative these media chiefs want.

The reactions to Trump’s threatened lawsuit prove the point. I have seen so many journalists rush to defend the BBC. Their general attitude is simple:

“Who does Trump think he is, suing our great institution. Sure they intentionally edited the speech to make it seem worse, but we do not like Trump. He did this to himself and we are holding him accountable. He does not need to sue them. They learned their lesson. How dare he.”

That line is a mash up of the BBC defender crowd. Remember, this is the same country where people are arrested for mean posts on social media.

The Media’s Emotional Manipulation Machine

A few honest people have admitted the obvious. You do not have to like President Trump to acknowledge that a journalistic institution should not be intentionally editing content in a misleading way.

But the media abroad is the same as the media here. All they do is play on people’s emotions to force a desired outcome. It should not matter if the outcome is left or right. The fact is, media organizations by and large do this every day. Mainstream media intentionally rots people’s brains to generate emotional, not rational, responses. It is the easiest way to manipulate them.

At this point the BBC is so full of garbage we should call them the River Cherwell.
