Huntingdon Train Stabbing Investigation Updates

British Transport Police have released new details following the multiple-stabbing incident aboard a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Friday evening, which left eleven people injured and two suspects in custody.

Superintendent John Loveless delivered a briefing Sunday morning at Huntingdon station, calling the attack “a shocking incident” and expressing sympathy for victims and their families.

According to Loveless, officers were called at 7:42 p.m. after reports of a multiple stabbing on board the 6:25 p.m. service. Armed officers from Cambridgeshire Police boarded the train within eight minutes of the first emergency call and arrested two men, who remain in custody.

Suspect Information

The suspects are described as a 32-year-old Black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent, both born in the UK, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Loveless said ten people were transported by ambulance and one additional victim self-presented at a hospital later that evening. Nine were initially listed as life-threatening; four have since been discharged, and two remain in life-threatening condition.

Investigation and Public Safety

The attack was initially treated as a possible terror incident, prompting Counter Terrorism Policing involvement, but authorities now say there is nothing to suggest a terrorist motive. BTP continues to lead the investigation.

Loveless thanked the public for cooperation and commended emergency-service coordination, including Cambridgeshire Police, the East of England Ambulance Service, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Counter Terrorism Policing.

Huntingdon station remains closed, though trains are expected to pass through from Sunday morning. Passengers will see heightened police presence across regional routes.

BTP is asking anyone with information or footage to contact investigators by texting 61016 and quoting reference 663 of 01/11/25.

UPDATED INFORMATION

Police from the British Transport Police have confirmed that of the two men initially arrested following the mass-stabbing aboard the train en route to Huntingdon, only a 32-year-old man from Peterborough remains in custody and is being treated as the sole suspect. The other man, a 35-year-old British national, was released without charge after investigators found he had no involvement. The suspect is held on suspicion of attempted murder and the investigation continues. The force reiterated that there is no indication at this time that the attack is terrorism-related.
