Yet here we are again, watching negotiations collapse while Iran stalls, engages in delay tactics, escalates regional tensions, and reminds the world that hostile regimes do not abandon ambitions they’ve had for half a century because diplomats sign paperwork. Recent reports that talks have stalled once again only reinforce a lesson many people learned long ago: you cannot negotiate with terrorists whose religious law allows them to lie and manipulate.

When Reality Refuses to Cooperate

The problem with many modern institutions is not that they lack information; it’s that they often refuse to acknowledge reality when it conflicts with a preferred narrative.

That same pattern appeared recently in the United Kingdom following the murder of 18-year-old university student Henry Nowak. After being stabbed multiple times, responding officers handcuffed Nowak while his attacker falsely claimed to be the victim of a racist assault. A jury ultimately convicted Vickrum Digwa of murder, and the case has sparked an international debate over policing, race, and institutional decision-making.

The details are tragic. The broader lesson is familiar.

When assumptions replace facts, bad outcomes follow.

The Pride Problem

That brings us to Pride Month.

Christians have long recognized a distinction that modern culture increasingly rejects. Pride is not merely self-confidence. Scripture repeatedly identifies pride as a destructive force that blinds people to truth and ultimately leads to downfall. Proverbs 16:18 warns that “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Today, an entire month is devoted to celebrating what Scripture warns against. Meanwhile, states such as Arkansas and Tennessee have elevated the nuclear family as an alternative cultural focus, highlighting a cultural shift in our society over the past few years.

No Deal With Reality

Whether discussing Iran, public institutions, or cultural trends, the underlying issue remains the same.

Reality eventually demands payment.

You cannot negotiate away dangerous intentions. False assumptions make a terrible foundation for good policy. And you cannot celebrate what God calls sin without consequences.

The details may change. The pattern does not.

At some point, reality gets the final vote.
