It is official. Democrats have redefined the word compromise.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries just declared that a one year extension of Obamacare subsidies is a “laughable proposition.” You heard that right. Laughable. Because apparently when Republicans offer a temporary extension to keep healthcare costs stable while Congress works out a longer term fix that is comedy gold in Democrat world.
Let’s translate Jeffries’ statement from politician speak to plain English.
“We are not negotiating. You will give us everything we demand permanently or we will shut it all down and blame you for it.”
This is not about helping Americans with healthcare. It is about Democrats demanding total control over a system they broke in the first place.
Remember the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, was their creation from day one. It wrecked private insurance markets, drove premiums through the roof and then required massive taxpayer subsidies to make it look affordable. Now those subsidies are expiring because Democrats themselves voted to make them temporary during the Biden COVID era.
And what is their solution? Not reform. Not negotiation. Just more subsidies forever paid for by the same middle class taxpayers already crushed by Bidenomics.
Meanwhile Republicans proposed a one year extension to stop premiums from spiking while both sides negotiate a real sustainable policy. But Jeffries called that “laughable.” Because nothing says serious leadership like mocking compromise during a government shutdown.
This is the same playbook Democrats use every time.
- Manufacture a crisis
- Demand total compliance
- Call any offer to meet halfway extremism
- Blame Republicans when it all falls apart
They have turned politics into performance art and the American people are footing the bill for the encore.
If Democrats actually cared about affordability they would start by admitting Obamacare was a disaster. But that would mean confessing that the so called Affordable Care Act made healthcare less affordable. That kind of honesty is not allowed before an election year.
So instead Jeffries laughs off negotiation because the Left does not do deals anymore. They issue ultimatums. And the only laughable proposition here is pretending Democrats ever wanted bipartisanship in the first place.
