Today, we honor the heroes — the one percent who raised their right hand, took the oath, and gave everything in defense of our freedom, our safety, and our nation. These men and women did not simply serve. They sacrificed. And with them, we remember the families they left behind, forever changed, carrying a loss so that the rest of us could live in peace.

Memorial Day is a time to gather with family and friends and enjoy the blessings of freedom — but more importantly, it is a time to pause and reflect. Paying tribute does not require grand gestures. Speak their names. Teach your children why this day matters. Take a moment to be grateful.

From the first lives lost in the fight for independence to those who gave their lives in service today, we remember them all. We honor their memory and recognize that it is their courage and sacrifice that make this nation what it is.

Today, we remember.
