As Democrats loudly claim inevitable midterm victories, many voters see through the messaging and reject the attempt to discourage turnout.

The more they scream, the louder they insist they are winning the midterms. When they wave around polls claiming they are comfortably ahead, it becomes clearer. This shows how deep in the hole they really are. This is gaslighting, plain and simple. The goal is not confidence. It is discouragement. Convince people the outcome is already decided, and you convince them to stay home. You tell voters their voice does not matter. You explain that the result is “locked up.” This way, you suppress turnout without ever saying the quiet part out loud.
That tactic is not new. What is new is how transparent it has become.
Voters are exhausted. They are tired of nonstop protesting. Tired of every single move being framed as an existential crisis simply because it involves Donald Trump. Tired of outrage as a lifestyle. When everything is treated as an emergency, nothing is. The constant screaming stops mobilizing supporters and starts pushing normal people away.
There is also a growing disconnect between political rhetoric and everyday priorities. Many Americans are not living on social media timelines or cable news panels. They are living in grocery stores, at gas stations, and in their neighborhoods. When political leaders are more focused on performative outrage than on public order and stability, people notice.
A major source of that frustration is the perception that Democratic Party leaders reflexively side with criminals over law-abiding citizens. The message many voters hear is not compassion. They perceive resistance to enforcing immigration law. There is also perceived hostility toward police. Additionally, they notice rhetorical sympathy for rioters and repeat offenders. It is contempt for rules that everyone else is expected to follow.
At the same time, many Americans believe the country is moving in a better direction. They see signs they interpret as improvement. Grocery prices appearing to stabilize or decline. Gas prices easing compared to recent highs. A border that looks more controlled than it was during peak chaos. A trade deficit that is shrinking rather than exploding. These perceptions are debated, but politically they matter. Voters act on what they think they are experiencing, not on what a press release tells them to feel.
Law enforcement is another fault line. Large segments of the public are fed up with anti-police rhetoric and policies that favor ideology over safety. They want order, not excuses. They want accountability, not endless rationalization for criminal behavior. When politicians sound hostile to the people tasked with keeping communities safe, voters do not hear nuance. They hear risk.
This is why the constant claims of inevitable victory ring hollow. If everything were truly going well for Democrats, there would be no need for daily announcements. There would be no need to flood the airwaves with polls meant to demoralize the opposition. Confidence does not need a megaphone. Insecurity does.
Gaslighting only works when people doubt their own judgment. Increasingly, they do not. They see the protests. They hear the rhetoric. They watch who gets defended and who gets dismissed. And they draw their own conclusions.
That is what scares the political class the most. Not Trump. Not a single election. But a public that no longer buys the spin. They no longer stay home. They no longer believe that screaming “we’re winning” makes it true.
